On Sunday afternoon, April 26, Pastor Shelly was officially installed as East Church's Settled Pastor. Rev. Wendy Vander Hart, Associate Conference Minister, represented the Massachusetts Conference of the UCC. Numerous supportive clergy were present, some of them friends of Pastor Shelly, some of them members of the Milton Interfaith Clergy Association (MICA), and one of them a former East Church pastor. Bishop Dwayne Royster travelled from Philadelphia to deliver a sermon entitled "Change the World, Just Start in Milton." Katie Conlon, Chair of Milton's Board of Selectmen, offered the Greeting from the civic community. Rev. Hall Kirkham, President of MICA, offered the Greeting from the religious community. Numerous members of the East Church community played important roles throughout the service. David Palmer and Deena Randall emerged from "retirement," presenting an unbelievable dinner following the service, aided by a small army of volunteers. It was a warm, uplifting love-filled affirmation as East Church begins a new chapter under Pastor Shelly's leadership.
