The small, colorful library and art room at Roosevelt Elementary in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston was bustling with energy this past Saturday as ten literacy volunteers plus the school's own principal from East Church processed (labeled, pocketed, and stamped) two hundred new donated books and reshelved a vast majority of the books already in place in the first phase of our sponsorship of this school library. Our time was fun and energizing and we could see the immediate impact of our efforts. There are many more new donated books to process, the library's catalog needs updating, and we are dreaming of ways to offer story times or book clubs for children and parents. In a school where there are no resources for a school librarian our Reading Changes Lives efforts can and will have a life-changing impact on countless children. Keep your heart open for the next opportunity to be a part of this exciting, ongoing effort. (Thank you, Pastor Shelly, for the photos and the caption.)
