A portion of East Church's "Welcome Home Sunday," September 9, was listed in the bulletin as "A Time of Decomissioning and Consecration." During this liturgy, Pastor Shelly provided details of the history of the red fabric which hung behind the altar for as long as most of us could remember. It was a gift, we learned. That gift from our past was acknowledged respectfully and lovingly. Then the liturgy turned to consecrate a new gift, two uplifting works of art created by parishioners Tony and Phyllis. The one which presently greets worshippers in our sanctuary will stay in place until Easter, when a second, equally exquisite and uplifting panel will take its place.
