Show of Hands: a brief glimpse into how decisions are made in a UCC congregation. East Church convened its 2023 Annual Meeting following worship on June 4. We celebrated milestones of the past year, and made projections for the coming year. Committee Chairs presented reports. A difficult budget was approved, and a few of the church's bylaws were refined. Everyone who had something to say, supportive or critical, was encourage to address the assembled body of members. Advances in technology allowed members unable to attend in person to nevertheless participate fully in the process. Maintaining a vital community seems to get trickier all the time, but this is how one respectful and functional community continues to remain unified and address matters of importance.
